What if a tiny pill could help you snooze through your dental appointments? Well that is exactly what oral sedation offers to patients. Read below to find out more details of sedation dentistry Chattanooga TN and how this could be an answer to all your dental anxieties.
Oral sedation dentistry is now the most common technique used in the United States and Canada to ease patient fears. The technique is easy and requires no needles. Best of all, the medications create such a comfortable experience that most patients do not remember the visit; it is as if they slept through the treatment. In reality, oral sedation dentistry maintains a level of consciousness in the patient for safety and cooperation.
Regardless of the type of sedation dentistry you receive, you must have a responsible caregiver accompany you to and from the procedure. They must drive you there, because you must take oral medication before arriving for your appointment. The caregiver should stay with you for an additional two to four hours at home.
Benefits of Sedation Dentistry
One of the major benefits of sedation dentistry is that people often feel like their dental procedure lasts only a few minutes, when in fact it might have taken hours to perform. Therefore, complex dental procedures such as smile makeovers or extensive rebuilding procedures that normally require multiple visits can often be performed in fewer appointments.
If you are reluctant to change the appearance of your smile because you are afraid or anxious about undergoing long or complicated dental procedures, sedation dentistry can make you feel comfortable during the treatment process and help you achieve a smile you can be proud of.
Also, because sedation dentistry addresses some of the fears that keep people from going to the dentist on a regular basis, sedation dentistry patients are more likely to receive recommended routine care. As a result, they are less likely to neglect their oral health or allow oral health problems to build to the point when drastic dental treatments become necessary.

CEREC by Sirona Dental Systems is the world’s only system for the fabrication of all ceramic dental restorations in one office visit. With CEREC at your dentist’s side, you can be in and out in a single visit with a permanent, all ceramic crown, onlay or veneer! For you, the patient, this means fewer injections, less drilling and less time out of your hectic schedule for dental care. So, why are thousands of people worldwide choosing the CEREC restorative technique for their dental needs?
Single Appointment Dental Care
Most dental restorative methods require more than one visit to the dentist. This means that on the first visit, you get an injection of anesthesia, your tooth prepared, an impression taken, and a temporary restoration put on your tooth. You make a second appointment for a couple of weeks later, and get an injection, have the temporary pried off (if it hasn’t fallen off already, and have a permanent restoration put on. Why go to the dentist a second time when you don’t have to? With CEREC, the procedure is done in a single appointment, start to finish.
Finest Dental Materials
A CEREC tooth restoration isn’t just convenient, it is also healthy. Many years ago, dentists had few options to repair decayed and damaged teeth other than amalgam, gold, and other metals. With CEREC, your dentist can use strong, tooth colored ceramic materials to restore your teeth to their natural strength, beauty, and function. These materials closely match the composition of natural tooth structure. This means when you eat hot food and then drink something cold, the restoration and tooth expand and contract at almost equal rates. So, your tooth does not crack, and you can go on enjoying your evening. Also, the materials are chemically bonded to your tooth, so your dentist can save as much healthy tooth tissue as possible while providing you with a dental restoration that strengthens your tooth.
Your dentist can use CEREC for more than just crowns and fillings. CEREC is capable of producing any single tooth restoration. Chipped or discolored front teeth can be repaired with beautiful CEREC porcelain anterior crowns or veneers. Your smile makes a lasting first impression. Enhance it with CEREC.
Worldwide, a CEREC restoration is placed every 20 seconds. With a history of nearly 20 years, this equipment has helped dentists place over 6 million restorations. Using metal free materials that are the closest to your natural enamel, CEREC gives you the highest quality restorative care. Ask your dentist today about single visit CEREC restorative care!
There’s some debate in the dental industry regarding the pros and cons of using silver fillings, or dental amalgams, to fill cavities. At our office, we exclusively use biocompatible porcelain onlays, crowns, and composite fillings.
We prefer to provide our patients with the newest and best alternatives available, which are bonded ceramic composite resins. Not only do they look natural, they provide a much better service and protection for your teeth, as they eliminate all the shortcomings of the old-fashioned silver fillings. Metal fillings do not bond to the tooth and can actually mask decay in x-rays.
Teeth with large metal fillings can also develop cracks over time due to the expansion and contraction of the metal. Left untreated, these cracks can enlarge over time and eventually lead to root canal therapy. Composite resin fillings seal the teeth better, insulate against hot and cold better, and if they wear down they can be repaired more easily.
Fillings are not the only metal-free restorations available. Our doctors also use all ceramic crowns that are biocompatible. Because there is no metal, there is no chance of the ugly gray line or allergic reaction often seen at the gum line in crowns that contain metal.
We believe that every patient has a right to choose what goes into their body. We choose not to use amalgam in our office, and upon request you can have them safely removed following our standard protocol.
Please call the office if you want to look into replacing any of your old, unsightly, black fillings with healthy, beautiful metal-free ones!
With the help of dedicated physicians, naturopaths, and chiropractors, we can help you get your “whole” body healthy. We choose to refer our patients to like-minded professionals who will help them achieve the level of health they desire. The doctors we refer to focus primarily to provide the least invasive, most natural approach. We want you to see doctors with the highest levels of expertise and always put your health first!

How we safely remove amalgams upon request:
- Place a rubber dam around the tooth to isolate it from the body
- Provide an alternative source of air to the patient

- Section amalgams and remove in as large of pieces as possible, while using copious amounts of water
- Remove and properly dispose of mercury after amalgam removal
